The Systems Administrator is responsible for all aspects of systems administration for the District, including servers and their related applications and databases. This includes implementation, configuration, coordination, control, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, usage monitoring, and the development of specialized system procedures within the District.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages the District’s information systems, including hardware and software. Assesses current and future needs for District users and modifies existing systems. Installs or recommends new programs and hardware to meet user needs. Confers with District constituents regularly to identify needs and determines how the desired results can be achieved. Analyzes existing systems and programs and develops or recommends new systems or modifications to existing systems. Provides system documentation by writing detailed descriptions of the system components. Provides support (and occasionally, training) to District constituents that interface with various District services. Recommends, installs, and monitors software changes and updates to keep District systems current; assists employees with regard to program changes and operations. Develops methodology to expand flexibility of programs or systems to meet changing needs of user departments and to accommodate future expansion without necessitating a major redesign of the systems at a later date. Works on special projects to assist various departments (Research and Evaluation, for example) in establishing goals and deadlines pertaining to the cycle or flow of information between departments and to the State and Federal government. Maintains contacts with all user departments, hardware vendors and other systems representatives. Skills / Requirements
Required Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of information technology. Information technology systems and related equipment. Methods and techniques used for troubleshooting technology issues. Network and system administration principles and practices. Current trends and developments in the IT field. Required Skills in: Server-based management. Managing and coordinating the installation and maintenance of District servers. Diagnosing and resolving complex server-based issues. Assistance in ensuring the proper functioning and reliability of the District’s technology systems. Database administration/management, (particularly MS SQL Server) Required Skills in (continued): Deploying, documenting, and maintaining enterprise-wide application code across multiple environments (Test, Training/QA, Prod) to ensure version control and mirrored environments. Excellent customer service orientation. Ability to establish and maintain relationships and work harmoniously with department members and all District constituents. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (IT), Education, or a related field, and two years experience working as a System Administrator in an information technology environment within a K-12 environment (or similar) environment; OR an equivalent of education and experience. LICENSES / CERTIFICATION: Must possess a vehicle driving record that allows insurability by MUSD insurance carrier. Important Notes
